2026 SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION NOTICE

Open Positions

The Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School will have 4 positions open for the 2026 Election:

  • District I: 1 position
  • District II: 1 position
  • District III: 2 positions

Election Details

  • Election Date: June 9, 2026
  • Time: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Held in conjunction with the Leech Lake General Election
  • Voting will take place at designated precinct polling sites

Candidate Sign-Up

  • Sign-Up Period: April 10, 2026 – May 8, 2026
  • Location: Tribal Offices (Election Board Office)

Eligibility Requirements

(Per School Board By-Laws, revised July 2022)

To be eligible to run for election or vote, individuals must meet the following:

  1. Be at least 18 years old by the election date.
  2. Be a member of the Leech Lake Band who has resided on the Reservation for at least 12 months prior to the election, OR be an Indian Parent/Guardian of an enrolled student.
  3. Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff of the school system are not eligible to run for election.
  4. Must pass a yearly background check and:
    • Continue to reside in their respective district, OR
    • Remain a Parent/Guardian of an enrolled student while serving.
  5. Individuals terminated by the School Board are not eligible to run or hold office for a minimum of 18 months after termination.
  6. Individuals removed from the school board for nonfeasance, misfeasance, or malfeasance, or those ineligible under 25 CFR 63.12, are not eligible.
