The Leech Lake Radon Program would like to remind everyone that January is National Radon Action Month!

Even though we cannot see it, radon is real!  It is an Invisible, odorless radioactive gas, so we cannot see or smell it. Radon occurs naturally in most soil & rocks in the earth. Radon gas causes lung cancer. There is no known safe level. When radon builds up and gets trapped in our home, it can be a problem. People spend more time indoors now than in the past, so Long-term exposure to radon can be harmful. It doesn’t matter what type of home you live in. Brand new and airtight, or old and drafty, radon isn’t Picky. Radon can be in your home and you would never suspect it.  In the U.S. Radon is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers. Harm to our lungs can be prevented, we just have to test.

“I once installed a radon mitigation system in an elder’s home with lung issues. When the system was complete, the elders were very appreciative and told me they felt safer now their radon issue was fixed. It feels good doing things to improve the indoor air quality for our people“ said Johnny Brown, LLBO Radon Technician.
